During our autumn term project ‘toys old and new’, the children in Reception have thoroughly enjoyed taking part in activities investigating the similarities and differences between old and new toys. The children were lucky enough to take a trip to the Tiverton toy museum, they enjoyed exploring toy history and investigating fascinating objects.

After an exciting bus journey to Tiverton, the children were ready to roam around the museum. The children enjoyed making peg dolls using glue, fabric and wooden pegs; they were thrilled to find out they were able to take their new creations home!

The children also took part in a toy hunt where they found and sorted a variety of different toys into ‘old’ and ‘new’ categories. The children explored different kinds of materials and discussed with the museum guide how their toys would have been different to children living in the 1940s.

In the kitchen area, the children were able to play with toys that they had never seen before. View-master projectors, kaleidoscopes, dolls and spirographs were among the fascinating toys that the children were able to explore.

After a sleepy bus journey back to school, it was safe to say that the children had a brilliant time on their first school trip!
